Gary was the president of Bryst International since its inception in 1996 until April 2015. His own experiences as a top level athlete, in combination with his technical interest in soccer have prepared him well for his focused pursuit of creating effective learning experiences for both players and coaches. Gary worked hard to assemble a supporting staff of keen and knowledgeable coaches who, like Gary, base their teaching on international experiences and current coaching practices.
Under Gary’s tutelage, Bryst International grew and developed into the company it is today, now offering various services, programs and events for promising and current elite soccer athletes and coaches.
As part of his own development as a top-level coach, Gary worked hard to achieve academically as well, having completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education at the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Arts in Coaching at the University of British Columbia. Besides academic excellence, Gary was repeatedly been recognized for his abilities and leadership as an elite athlete. Some examples of his achievements at the University of Western Ontario have been the Most Valuable Player Award (1976); the Bronze ‘W’ Athletic Award (1977); the Varsity Soccer First Team Award (1975-80); Varsity Team Captain (1977-79); the Purple Blanket Award for Athletic Distinction (1980); and he was also selected to the prestigious All-Canadian Team in 1980. Gary was also inducted into the University of Western Ontario’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
Gary’s coaching experiences are extensive and impressive, some of which have included: the Boy’s Ontario U-15 Assistant Coach (Gold Medal in 1987 Canadian Championships); the Boy’s Ontario U-17 Head Coach (Gold Medal in 1992 Canadian Championships); and the American Scholarship Assistance Program (Showcase Team Head Coach – 1994-98). He was also the Canadian U-17 Boys Assistant Coach at the World Championships; the Canadian Men’s Olympic Team Assistant Coach (1982-83); and the Staff Coach for the U-20 and U-17 Boys National Teams in 1999.
Gary was one of the founders of Bryst International Inc., a private academy he started in 1996 with his wife and business partner, Cindy Miller. Bryst started with coach education and quickly moved into player development. Bryst is known as one of the top academies in the province, is supported by excellent staff, and is a well established academy brand in the marketplace. Gary was President of Bryst International Inc. from its inception in 1996 until April 7, 2015, when he was able to move on to new challenges knowing Bryst remains in good hands.
Gary currently holds the position of Technical Director with the Ontario Soccer Association, as he leads the technical programs in the province, including the new OPDL league, to the next level!
